Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) refer to the scope of emission sources that an organization is responsible for or needs to consider when calculating its carbon footprint or setting Net Zero targets.

GHG emissions are categorized into three scopes based on the organization’s level of control or influence over the emission sources:
🔹 Scope 1: Direct emissions
These are emissions released directly from the organization’s own activities, such as fuel combustion in company-owned machinery or vehicles.

🔹 Scope 2: Indirect emissions from purchased energy
These emissions come from the generation of energy that the organization purchases and uses, such as electricity from power plants. Although the emissions occur offsite, they are attributed to the organization’s energy consumption.

🔹 Scope 3: Other indirect emissions
These are emissions from activities that are related to the organization but occur from sources not owned or directly controlled by it, such as:
•    Employee commuting and business travel
•    Transportation and distribution of goods
•    Production of raw materials by suppliers
•    Waste disposal
•    Use of the organization’s products after sale

Renewable Energy Certificate (REC)A Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) is an internationally recognized instrument that represents the right to claim the environmental attributes of electricity generated from renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, or biomass.

Each REC certifies the generation of one megawatt-hour (MWh) of renewable electricity.
